About the field

SaltFork Paintball is a family owned and operated paintball field in St. Joseph, IL. It was born just outside of Sidney, IL when owner Jake Myers started playing the sport with his friends on his dad's property. The more he played, the more he realized that everyone wanted in on the fun. Soon he began supplying paint to buy on site and organizing events. While he was going to school at Mahomet-Seymour High School, he printed off countless flyers and passed them out to anyone that he could. After roughly 10 years Jake and his brother Jonathon set out to find a new location of their own that would be even better than the old field. Their search led them to a piece of property just outside of St. Joseph that was nestled between I-74 and Route 150 and only a mile from town. It was a beautiful location that was full of potential and so the lease was signed. Jake, his brother, and a handful of friends began cleaning up the woods and started visualizing where each new field would be placed. With the help of past customers and friends who attended the city meetings, the permit was granted and in the spring of 2014, the Myers brothers began building the new field.

Now the field is a favorite of many locals and attracts players from all over the midwest. Every year since its beginning in St. Joe, they have worked to bring new fields or improvements to continue to please customers and bring the joy of paintball to everyone in Champaign-Urbana and surrounding communities.

Word on the street...

"So impressed. Great Staff- really added to the fun experience. Our friend got a migraine after playing 1 game and she and her boyfriend had to sit out and the staff gave them 2 free entries for next time. Speaks volumes about the business- thank you so much! Had an awesome time."
Whitney Pope
"I would highly recommend taking your youth group or any other group to Saltfork paintball. They were very organized and ready to handle our large group. Their friendly staff was very clear and structured in their explanation to our kids and leaders. Our kids had a blast! They loved the all the different fields that Saltfork had to offer as well as playing some of their games! We will be back- our kids and leaders love it!"

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How bad does it hurt to get shot?

It's kind of similar to the feeling of a rubber band snap.

  • What should I wear?

The more you wear, the less it hurts so you may want to wear some layers. but be careful to dress for the weather. Also you will be playing in the woods so wear clothes that you don't mind getting muddy.

  • Does the paint stain?

No. As the paint drys it turns into a powdery material that easily washes off with soap and water.

  • Can I bring my own equipment?

Of course! Just make sure your tanks are within the hydro dates and make sure your markers are firing under 300 fps when you get here.

  • Can I bring my own paint?

Unfortunately, no. Only paint that has been purchased at our field can be used as a safety and environmental precaution.

  • Can I use paint grenades?

You can use paint grenades, mines, and whatever else you can find if you've got it! (you should probably check in with us before using those though).

  • Do you offer chest protection or other protective clothing?

No, we only provide masks for protection. The rest is up to you if you think you need it.

  • Do paintballs freeze in the winter?

No. The paintballs we use include an additive that makes it nearly impossible for the paintballs to freeze. No need to fear the stories your friend told you about playing with frozen paintballs on his uncle's farm.

  • What is "Low Impact"?

Keeping kids in mind, we use markers that fire smaller paintballs at lower velocities to take away some of the sting. That means you lose some range though :(

  • What is the minimum age to play?

10 years old for open play and standard reservations and 8 for low impact.

  • Will my group get rained out?

We stay open rain or shine except for in extreme conditions or if there's forcasted thunderstorms all day. We'll let you know about cancellations either by calling or by posting on Facebook. If we see lightning during play, there will be a 30 minute delay.

  • Do I need to do anything before I come?

Waiver, waiver, waiver! If you fill out your waiver before you arrive, it will make checking in much faster so you can start playing sooner! It would also help us if you would pre-register for open play so we can get a better idea of how many people will be there but it's definitely not required.
